And the women her neighbours gave it a name, saying, There is a son born to Naomi; and they called his name Obed: he is the father of Jesse, the father of David.
— Ruth 4:17

Synopsis

The story begins with the woman Naomi, who lived with her husband and her two sons. Her husband then died, and her sons took up wives, one of them being Ruth who was a Moabite. Soon after that, Naomi’s sons passed away, leaving just her and her two daughter-in-laws. She insisted that both of them return to their mothers, but Ruth did not leave her side and went with her to Bethlehem.

Upon arriving, Ruth asked Naomi if she would be able to help with collecting the harvest so that she may be able to find someone. Naomi granted her request, which led to her meeting Boaz. She professes that she found favor with him as he had treated her well (regardless of whether she was a foreigner), which eventually led to Ruth uncovering Boaz’s feet during his sleep in the threshing floor, and consequently led to their marriage.
