The Gospel of Matthew is the story of Jesus told through the eyes of Matthew, who was a tax collector in Capernaum.1 With the horrible reputation that tax collectors had at the time, the Jews did not take kindly to Matthew, especially considering that he himself is also of Jewish descent.2 In the perspective of his brethren, he was viewed as someone who had betrayed his own people, defecting to the Romans for wealth.
